I’ve noticed that I enjoy eggy, crispy or bready things (it certainly seems to be a recurring pattern here). And I love scotch eggs – having tried many different ones, this for me takes home the bacon (pardon the pun). I remember the first time I bit into this – a trifecta of delicious crispy panko breadcrumb coating, flavourful sausage meat with just the right amount of kick, and golden sunshine oozy quail egg yolk within. I also love freedom of choosing how you want to eat it - halved, spooned or shared. This is the This is the runny scotch egg originally invented by Fortnum & Masons in 1738 and elevated 20 years ago by Chef Heston Blumenthal of The Hind’s Head – a wonderful triumph of panache, balance and technique. A truly delightful dish that is pure joy in a bite.
